On June 6, 1941, more than 156,0000 allied forces launched from the sea onto the beaches of Normandy. Nearly 7,000 allied ships commanded the French coastline, and more than 3,200 aircraft dominated the skies. A few miles inland, 23,000 paratroopers and glider brigades landed to block German reinforcements from the shore. Thousands died. Tens of thousands were wounded.

We salute and from the depths of our souls thank the Greatest Generation for saving America and the world from tyranny then…and we pledge to them and to our children, that we shall continue the battle against new, sinister forces of evil of our time–foreign and domestic–that seek to steal our freedoms now. We will defend the courage, honor and memory of those who fought more than seven decades ago with our own…We will never surrender…So help us God.
